Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for TheTaxCalc Tax Literacy Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following criteria. The scholarship is open to students at any accredited U.S. college or university, including community colleges and four-year institutions, public or private.
- Enrollment Status: Enrolled full-time at an accredited U.S. college or university for the 2026-2027 academic year. Online programs qualify if the institution is accredited.
- Academic Level:Undergraduate (junior or senior standing as of Fall 2026) OR graduate student (master's or doctoral) pursuing an eligible field of study.
- Eligible Majors: Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Tax Law, Public Policy (with tax focus), or related fields. Dual majors with at least one eligible field are welcome to apply.
- GPA Requirement: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Transcripts must reflect this requirement.
- Citizenship: U.S. citizen, permanent resident (green card holder), or valid F-1 visa holder. Other visa categories are not eligible at this time.

Original Essay (500-800 words)
Write an original essay on the 2026 topic: "How can tax literacy education be improved for college students, and what role should technology play in making tax information more accessible?" The essay should reflect your original thinking, personal experience, and research. Plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
Unofficial Transcript
Provide an unofficial transcript from your current institution showing all coursework completed and your cumulative GPA. Official transcripts are required only of the winner.
Proof of Enrollment
A letter from your registrar's office, a current course schedule, or a recent tuition receipt confirming full-time enrollment for Fall 2026.

Selection Process
Applications are reviewed by a selection committee composed of TheTaxCalc's editorial team, including a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a tax attorney. The committee evaluates applications based on the following weighted criteria:

The winner will be notified by email by January 31, 2027and will be announced publicly on this page and on TheTaxCalc's social media channels (with the winner's consent) by February 15, 2027. The $1,000 award will be disbursed directly to the winner within 30 days of announcement.

Who is eligible for TheTaxCalc Tax Literacy Scholarship?
To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled full-time at an accredited U.S. college or university as an undergraduate (junior or senior) or graduate student, with a major in accounting, finance, economics, business, tax law, or a related field. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or hold a valid F-1 visa.
How much is the scholarship award?
The scholarship award is $1,000 USD, paid directly to the recipient. The funds may be used for tuition, books, fees, or living expenses at the discretion of the recipient.
When is the application deadline?
The application deadline for the 2026 award cycle is December 15, 2026, at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. All materials, including the essay and transcript, must be received by this date. Late applications will not be considered.
Can international students apply for the scholarship?
International students who hold a valid F-1 visa and are enrolled full-time at an accredited U.S. college or university in an eligible major are welcome to apply. Students on tourist, B-1, or B-2 visas are not eligible.
Is the scholarship renewable?
The scholarship is awarded annually and is non-renewable. However, previous applicants who did not win are welcome to reapply in subsequent years if they continue to meet eligibility requirements. A new essay must be submitted each year.
How will my personal information be used?
Personal information submitted as part of the scholarship application is used solely for evaluating applications and notifying the winner. We do not sell, rent, or share applicant information with third parties. The winner's name, essay excerpt, and photo (with permission) may be published on our website.
